About Artist:
屠新忆 , Amelie Tu
Born in 1989 in Nanjing, China, Amelie Tu (屠新忆) grew up as an only child, spending much of her time immersed in her own imagination. Without siblings to play with, she discovered her passion for painting, art, and music at an early age. For her, creativity became a gateway to freedom—a way to express emotions and explore the vibrancy of the world. Her fascination with colors and handmade craftsmanship blossomed into a lifelong curiosity about culture, tradition, and human connection.
Amelie pursued her creative path by studying Fashion Design in Shanghai, China, and later expanded her expertise with a year of Fashion Business studies in Milan, Italy. In 2013, she relocated to Berlin, Germany, a city known for its dynamic art scene, before finally settling in the enchanting town of Sintra, Portugal, in 2022.
A turning point in her creative journey came during a trip to Morocco with her husband. Captivated by the richness of Moroccan culture and civilization, she developed a deep love for the country and its people. Morocco, at the crossroads of African, Arab, Berber, and Mediterranean influences, boasts a unique cultural tapestry that is both vibrant and deeply rooted in tradition. Its architecture, music, and craftsmanship reflect this fusion, with intricate patterns, bold colors, and timeless elegance.
A passionate traveler, Amelie draws inspiration from the diversity of cultures she has experienced. This curiosity led her to found Äventyr in 2016, a brand deeply rooted in exploration and storytelling. While she was not initially drawn to her own Chinese heritage, her perspective changed profoundly after the global pandemic. Unable to return to Shanghai and Nanjing for five years, her eventual homecoming awakened a newfound appreciation for her cultural roots.
One particularly meaningful discovery was 甲骨文 (Jiǎgǔwén)—the ancient Chinese oracle bone script, which dates back over 3,000 years. These early forms of written language, carved onto bones and turtle shells, embody a profound connection to history and storytelling. Inspired by this symbolic tradition, Amelie sought to combine the visual beauty of these ancient characters with the intricate craftsmanship of Moroccan artisans.
This fusion of history, culture, and craftsmanship gave birth to her latest artistic endeavor: rugs that are not only functional pieces of art but also vessels of cultural dialogue. Each rug reflects her vision of bridging the past and present, East and West, and celebrating the rich, intertwined narratives of global artistry.
Amelie’s work reflects her identity as a global citizen—an artist whose creations are both deeply personal and universally resonant.

The Art of Oracle Bone Script and the Symbolism of the Horse
This rug features an artwork inspired by the ancient Chinese Oracle Bone Script (甲骨文), one of the earliest forms of Chinese writing. The character depicted is “馬” (Horse), a timeless and significant symbol in Chinese culture.
In Chinese tradition, the horse symbolizes speed, freedom, and perseverance. It has long been revered as a noble and powerful creature, embodying the spirit of progress and strength. The use of Oracle Bone Script, which dates back over 3,000 years, connects this timeless motif to its historical origins, blending ancient artistry with modern design.

Hand knotted especially for you in the ways of the Beni M’rirt tribes who have made their small town of M’rirt in Khénifra Province famous around the world. These distinguished craftsmen and women together create the absolute highest quality of rugs on the African continent.
M’rirt has to be felt to believe it, so smooth, so soft, by far the fluffiest of all Moroccan rugs. In fact all of the finest wool in Morocco is reserved for making M’rirt rugs. Your made to order rug will be created knot by knot with an especially long and meticulous process passed down through the generations.
Beni M’rirt rugs are the definite choice for the experienced interior designer. Created with a special devotion to quality and contemporary aesthetics. Beni M’rirt rugs might look similar to Beni Ourain at first glance, but they are made with a different knot and thinner yarn making them both softer and more robust. While most other tribal rugs have a focus on telling a story or adhere to tradition, Beni M’rirt always has more of a modern feeling like it was meant to be part of an interior space, like it was meant to serve its life on the floor of a beautiful house for centuries to come.
